Sbi will soon launch Whatsapp banking service

The State Bank of India (SBI) announced on Friday that it will soon introduce WhatsApp-based banking services for its customers.

SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara made the announcement while launching a few retail initiatives. Khara also said that they will soon launch banking API (application programming interface) services to aggregators and enterprise customers.

API Banking is a system in which APIs – a means for two or more computer programs to communicate with each other – are used for communication between the bank’s and the customer’s servers, facilitating the transfer of data between these two systems, ensuring a Seamless and secure integration between client and banking systems.

As for WhatsApp Banking, as the name suggests, customers will be able to use the popular messaging app to perform certain banking transactions.

Currently, SBI offers a WhatsApp-based solution for its credit card customers called SBI Card WhatsApp connect. Under it, customers can check account summary, reward points, outstanding balance, make card payments and more.

• Send a WhatsApp message, “OPTIN” to 9004022022

• Give a missed call to 08080945040 from your registered mobile number

SBI Card Mobile App: Log in to the mobile app and click “WhatsApp Connect” in the main menu to subscribe to WhatsApp

• SBI Card Website: Click here, login and subscribe.

• SMS: Send WAOPTIN XXXX to 5676791, where XXXX represents the last 4 digits of the card number.

Other banks that offer WhatsApp-based services in one form or another include HDFC, Yes, ICICI, IndusInd, Bank of Maharashtra, Axis, and IDFC First, among others.
